  • Bureau of Recreation Summer Program 2020

    Dear parents/guardian,
I hope this email/announcement finds you in the best of health during these challenging times.  I would like to inform you that the City of Waterbury Department of Public Works Bureau of Recreation is formally implementing an alternative summer program.  The summer program will be hosted at the following locations: Wallace Middle School, Crosby High School, North End Middle School, and Wilby High School. Due to the current state of this pandemic we will only offer summer programs from 9 AM to  3 PM. Children will be dropped off between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. We will have a system in place to ensure the safety of your children and our staff. Note that all staff and children will be screened for temperature and COVID-19 symptoms.  All staff will wear masks at all times and no parents/guardians are allowed to enter the buildings.

When you register online, you will choose the location that suits your needs based on the grade levels available for each particular school. Please be sure to select the grade your child is entering in August of 2020 and the appropriate school.

    Wallace Middle School - Grades 1 - 3
    Crosby High School - Grades 4 - 6
    North End Middle School - Grades 1 - 3
    Wilby High School - Grades 4 - 6

Our programs will have specific limitations with guidance from the Office of Early Childhood (OEC), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Waterbury Public Health Department.
There are  things we can and cannot do due to the circumstances we are competing with. For example, we will not have any field trips, and no after care or before care.

We will provide some gym activities, aquatic opportunities and outdoor field games during the course of the day based on scheduling.  We will provide free breakfast and lunch through our school lunch program.

After registration has been completed you will all receive an email providing you our new drop off protocol, screening procedures, and pick up protocol.

Registration will open Tuesday, May 26, 2020 (8:00 AM) through June 19, 2020 total cost of program is $275. Program dates will be June 29, 2020 through August 7, 2020 (Monday through Friday).

We thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times. Together we stand, together we will overcome.

    Thank you,
